DAY OF SURGERY INSTRUCTIONS

LOCATION

  • We are located on the second floor of the Barrington Orthopedics Specialists building at 929 W Higgins Road in Schaumburg.
  • The main entrance doors will automatically open at 6:00am.
  • You will receive a phone call the day before your surgery between 1:00pm and 4:00pm with your arrival time.

ATTIRE

  • Please wear loose, comfortable clothing. Do not wear clothing with belt buckles or zippers.
  • Leave all jewelry and valuables at home (including wedding rings, apple watches, etc) regardless of your procedure.
  • Do not wear any makeup or hairspray.
  • Do not wear contacts, glasses only.

WHAT TO BRING

  • Insurance card and photo ID.
  • If you’re having anesthesia, please bring your driver’s name and phone number.
  • If you have sleep apnea, please bring your CPAP.

GENERAL INFORMATION

  • Schaumburg Surgery Center does not accept Advanced Directives.
  • We allow ONE visitor to accompany the patient.
  • Children under the age of 18 will NOT be allowed in the Pre-Operative/Recovery area.
  • If you have any signs or symptoms of illness, please contact our office prior to coming in.
  • If you have been exposed to someone who has tested positive for COVID, please contact our center prior to coming in.

FASTING RESTRICTIONS – GENERAL OR MAC ANESTHESIA PATIENTS ONLY

  • No food or drink after midnight.
  • You may have clear liquids up to 6 HOURS PRIOR TO ARRIVAL.
  • Clear liquids: water, apple juice, tea.
  • You may brush your teeth and take APPROVED medications with small sips of water.
  • If you are taking a GLP/weight loss drug, please contact our pre-admissions nurse for specific fasting restrictions.

DIABETIC PATIENTS

  • If you are on an insulin pump, we may be turning off the pump during your surgery.
  • If you are on injectable fast acting insulin, please do not take the day of surgery.
  • If you are taking ultra long-acting insulin, please take 1⁄2 the usual AM dose the morning of surgery.
    • Hold if your blood glucose <100.
